Seeing “account suspended” when you log in is stressful, especially with money in your balance. The good news is that most of these restrictions are temporary and tied to a specific, fixable issue — usually a missing document. Our team has gone through every reason the casino lists for limiting an account, and this guide covers what triggers each one, how to resolve it, and what to do if you disagree.
Block, restriction or closure: what’s the difference?
The wording on screen tells you a lot. In our experience the three states work like this:
| Status | What you can do | Typical cause | Can it be reversed? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Restricted | Log in and usually withdraw, but not deposit or play | Pending KYC, affordability review | Yes — once the check is complete |
| Blocked / suspended | Often can’t log in at all | Duplicate account, chargeback, under-age suspicion, investigation | Sometimes — after review |
| Closed | No access; account permanently shut | Self-exclusion, GAMSTOP, confirmed breach of terms | Self-exclusion: no. Other closures: only on appeal |
If the screen doesn’t say which one applies, ask live chat directly: “Is my account restricted, suspended or closed, and what is the reason?”
Every reason Betmica may block an account
1. Failed or missing KYC
Trigger: the automatic electronic age/ID check didn’t match, or you haven’t uploaded the documents requested. UK rules mean you can’t deposit or play until you’re verified. Fix: upload photo ID and proof of address dated within 3 months. Reviews usually take 24–48 hours. See our KYC verification guide.
2. Duplicate account
Trigger: a second account sharing your name, date of birth, address, device or payment card. One account per person (and often per household) is the rule. Fix: tell live chat which account is yours and ask for the other to be closed. Never open a new account to get around a block — that turns a fixable issue into a closure.
3. GAMSTOP self-exclusion match
Trigger: your details match an active GAMSTOP registration. Betmica must check GAMSTOP and close or block matching accounts. Fix: none until the exclusion ends. See the section below on blocks that can’t be lifted.
4. Payment name mismatch
Trigger: you deposited with a card, PayPal or bank account not in your own name — a partner’s card is the classic example. Fix: send proof that the method is yours. If it isn’t, the casino will usually refund the deposit to the original method and ask you to use your own.
5. Suspected bonus abuse
Trigger: patterns such as multiple accounts claiming the welcome bonus, or breaking the £5 max-bet rule while a Betmica bonus is active. Fix: ask for the specific term you’re said to have broken. If you’ve played within the rules, explain your play in writing. Our wagering requirements guide sets out the rules that matter.
6. Chargeback
Trigger: you asked your bank to reverse a deposit. The account is normally suspended while it’s investigated. Fix: if the chargeback was a mistake, cancel it with your bank and tell support. If it was genuine (for example, card fraud), pass on the bank’s reference.
7. Affordability review
Trigger: deposit or loss levels that trigger a UK affordability check. Fix: send the payslips or bank statements requested. Play may be paused until the review is complete.
8. Under-age suspicion
Trigger: any sign the account holder may be under 18. The account is frozen immediately. Fix: provide valid photo ID showing you’re 18 or over. Betmica is 18+ only and any play by a minor is voided.
9. VPN or login from outside the UK
Trigger: your IP address shows a location outside Great Britain, or a VPN. Fix: switch off the VPN and log in from the UK. A one-off holiday login usually triggers a temporary block only. See login problems.
Tip
Before contacting support, check your email (including spam) for a message from Betmica. Most restrictions come with an email naming the document or action needed. 18+ only — if a block is causing you worry, free help is at BeGambleAware.org.
What happens to your balance
A block doesn’t mean your money vanishes. In general:
- Your own deposited cash and genuine winnings remain yours and are paid out once any check is complete, to the method you deposited with.
- Bonus funds and bonus winnings may be removed if a term was broken, such as bonus abuse.
- Chargebacks — the disputed amount is deducted, and the balance can be held until the dispute is settled.
- Self-exclusion or GAMSTOP — Betmica should return any remaining real-money balance to you.
- Under-age play — winnings are voided; deposits are normally refunded.
Withdrawal timings after a block follow the normal schedule — see withdrawal problems and the withdrawals page.
Blocks that can’t be lifted: self-exclusion and GAMSTOP
If you self-excluded through Betmica (6 months to 5 years) or registered with GAMSTOP, the block stays in place until the period ends. Nobody — not live chat, not a manager, not our team — can reverse it early, and that’s deliberate: it protects you when it matters most. Opening a new account won’t work either, because UK operators check GAMSTOP at sign-up.
If you’re finding the exclusion hard, that’s a sign to reach out for support rather than a way around it. GamCare’s National Gambling Helpline is free on 0808 8020 133, 24/7, and blocking software such as GamBan can add an extra layer. More on our responsible gambling page.

How to appeal a block, step by step
If you believe the block is a mistake, follow this order. In our experience a calm, specific message gets a far faster answer than a long, angry one.
- Get the exact reason. Open Betmica live chat (08:00–00:00 UK time) and ask which term or check led to the block. Write down the agent’s name and the time.
- Gather evidence. Photo ID, proof of address, proof of payment ownership, or bank statements — whatever answers that reason.
- Send it in writing. Use the Help Centre contact form so there’s a dated record. Attach the documents and keep your message short and factual.
- Wait for the review. Document reviews usually take 24–48 hours; investigations such as chargebacks take longer.
- Escalate if needed. If you’re unhappy with the answer, ask for it to be treated as a formal complaint (see below).
Complaint and ADR route
If the appeal doesn’t resolve it, use the formal complaints process:
- Formal complaint to Betmica. Say clearly that you’re making a formal complaint. The operator has up to 8 weeks to give a final response.
- Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). If you’re still not satisfied after 8 weeks, or after the final response, you can take it to the ADR provider listed in Betmica’s terms. ADR is free for players and independent of the casino.
- Gambling Commission. The Commission doesn’t settle individual disputes, but you can report concerns about an operator at gamblingcommission.gov.uk.
Betmica’s UK site says it holds a Great Britain licence from the Gambling Commission — always check the licence number in the casino’s footer against the Commission’s public register. Our terms page has more on how complaints work.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a Betmica account suspension last?
+
It depends on the reason. A KYC restriction usually lifts within 24–48 hours of uploading the right documents. Chargebacks and investigations take longer. Self-exclusion lasts the full chosen period.
Can I still withdraw if my account is restricted?
+
Often yes, once verification is complete. Real-money balances are paid to the method you deposited with; bonus funds may be removed if a term was broken.
Can Betmica lift my GAMSTOP block early?
+
No. GAMSTOP and self-exclusion blocks can’t be lifted early by anyone. They end when the period you chose runs out.
Should I open a new account if mine is blocked?
+
No. A second account is treated as a duplicate and can lead to both being closed. Resolve the original block with support instead.
